I am quite happy with the work that Bill did for us. We have not tried to use the fireplace yet, but everything seems to be in working order. Bill arrived when he said he would come, was quick, and left things clean. He also took time to explain/show me how the damper, etc. worked and to answer my questions.

Frank and his boys did a great job. I have put the following comments below in my review of Wilkens Contracting that I submitted today to Homestars. I gave you a 10/10 rating.

I had a small chimney of yellow bricks that were chipping and needed to be replaced. I also had some red bricks in the garage wall that needed to be replaced. I contacted three companies in the Toronto area. One would not come to the house to view the chimney but instead based on the size of the chimney gave me an estimate to fix the chimney and 70 bricks on the garage. Two companies did come to the house and gave me their estimates. Ernie Wilkens of Wilkens Contracting was one of those companies. Wilkens was $180.00 more than one company and the same price as the other one. I selected Wilkens to do the chimney and the garage because they would replace 100 bricks on the garage instead of the 70-80 bricks the other two companies would replace. Secondly Ernie listened to my concerns about not disturbing the flat roof membrane around the chimney and explained what they would do to address my concerns. Frank and his sons showed up on time on the appointed day. Frank viewed the work to be done and then went and got the bricks. He believed that more bricks were needed but said he would not charge me for the extra bricks he was getting. That was very nice of him as some places charge $15 for each extra brick over the estimated number. The work was done in 1 day. The new bricks matched the old colour very well. The work area was cleaned up. They even put mortar in several cracks on the inside cement block wall of the garage. Ernie contacted me later to see if I was satisfied with the work. I am very happy with the craftsmanship of their work and will recommend them to my neighbours.

We think you did a great job. Allan was on time, very pleasant and did a great job. We wouldn’t hesitate to call you guys again. We unexpectedly sold our house (after buying one) a few weeks ago and have left your information with the purchasers as well since the house will need a re-build for one of the chimneys in a few years.

Allan did a wonderful job!

He is a very committed employee who cares a great deal about his finished product.
He worked hard, showed up just before 7:30 each morning and was very polite.
He also was meticulous with keeping a clean work site at the end if each day.

I am very pleased with the jobs that Allan and Bill did for us.

To begin with, Bill called us a few days before to let us know when he could start the work, and to see if the date was convenient for us. Due to another job he was finishing up, he arrived later than expected, however he worked until dusk and indicated he would be back the next day. He was very polite and friendly. He was also very careful to clean up before leaving. I was not around on the second day while he was working, however I could see the work he had done when I got home and was very pleased. The clean up was very good.

Similar to Bill, Allan called us a few days before to let us know when he could start the work on the chimneys. Allan showed up right on schedule, so I got to meet him before leaving for my office. Allan was very friendly and assured me I would be happy with the work. When I came home that evening, it was late and I was not able to see the see the work done on the chimneys. A day or so later, Allan left a message on our answering machine, asking if we were satisfied with the work he had done. A couple of more days passed before I could look at the work, but when I did there were a couple of things I was not completely satisfied with. I phoned Allan and explained what I was concerned about and asked if he could come by so I could show him. Allan offered to come by the same day (last Friday), however this was not convenient for me. I contacted Allan after the weekend and he agreed to come by on Thursday morning. I was quite surprised on Wednesday afternoon when I arrived home and noticed right away that the work had been done. Allan had also cleaned up very well before leaving. I called Allan to tell him that I was very satisfied with the work he had done.

In the meantime you had sent this email asking if we were satisfied with the work done. I want to let you know we are very satisfied with everything about our experience with Wilkens Contracting Inc. From our first contact with Ernie, to the friendly service, the work completed, the clean up, and customer follow-up, we are very pleased, and impressed. I would not hesitate to recommend Wilkens Contracting Inc. to anyone.

I am very happy with the work Jake did at our house. He was very professional and did a great job. It was nice to receive a phone call from him Friday afternoon saying that he managed to save us some money on our quote because our chimney wasn’t in as bad of shape as initially thought. The job turned out great, the guys that came yesterday did a great job of parging the crack, and removing some extra mortar that was left behind from the tuck pointing. Very satisfied with the work.
